Belleville, Ontario

Five trails along the Moira and the bay.

Belleville is built where the Moira River meets the Bay of Quinte — and most of its walking traces one or the other.

Belleville is a Bay of Quinte town with a river running through the middle of it. The Moira comes down from the north and empties into the bay right at the foot of downtown, and the city has done the sensible thing and lined both with trails — so you can walk from the waterfront up the river and barely touch a road.

These five take in the best of both, plus a couple of quieter loops in the woods at the edges of town. None is long or hard; all of them are the kind of walk you can fit into an ordinary day. Tap any one to open it in Foray if you've got the app, or just read it as a map.

The paved path along the Moira through the middle of Belleville, linking the downtown bridges with the parks upstream. Smooth and flat, busy with cyclists and strollers, the river always at your shoulder. The spine of the whole network — start here and you can follow the water a long way.

A paved path named for Belleville's sister city in South Korea — a quiet riverside connector most people walk without knowing the story. Flat and easy, threading green space near the Moira, it links neighbourhoods more than it leads anywhere in particular. Pleasant, and yours alone most mornings.

One of a web of short nature loops in the woods on the west side, near Loyalist College — orchard, wetland, and mixed bush, each loop colour-named and marked well enough to wander without a map. Soft ground, genuine quiet, and the best birdsong in town. The longest of the loops, and a good way into the rest.

A standalone loop in the trees on the east edge of town, unpaved and unfussy. No views to speak of and no crowds either — just a quiet circuit through second-growth woods, the kind of place you go to clear your head rather than to see anything in particular.
